How we charge for South Africa

For everything other than legal forms and documents, here is how we charge:

The following notes have been taken from our terms and conditions and are for guidance only.

We charge R 1,200 plus VAT (at 14%) per hour spent on your work.
Probate work is charged at R 1,800 per hour plus VAT.
This includes time spent looking over your documents, providing advise by telephone or e-mail and drafting legal letters and documents for you.
Of course we try to give an estimate for your work wherever we are able to calculate how long it will take. However, sometimes the time it might take is unknown until we have started the work. If this is the case, we shall inform you that we can work only against an hourly rate.
We work against pre-payment only. You can make top-ups to your account in any sum you wish at anytime. The minimum sum to start is R 500.
VAT is charged extra to all quoted prices including estimates.
The beauty of Net Lawman is that you do not pay for normal office expenses. However, we do charge for travel costs, should you require us to come to you.
You can always download an invoice from your account. If you pay by cheque, no invoice will be issued automatically. Please ask us for one.
Need to check your account balance? Please ask.
When we have finished your work, we will return any unused money automatically.
We do not take on litigation, employment law cases or draft documents for the transfer of real property.

Example of help we give every day:

· Client purchases lease agreement. She knows she needs it but is not certain of the provisions which should be included.

· Client sends us brief message to explain.

· We contact the client by telephone and explore the issues together. We fix an approximate start cost of R 3,500 - not a quote, but an estimate.

· Client pays into her new account via the Net Lawman website. She then contacts us to confirm she has made payment.

· We look at the information provided and ring client for explanation of a few of her ideas.

· We draw a first draft lease document and e-mail it to the client within 48 hours of payment.

· Client looks at the changes and returns with some additional points.

· We amend the draft to include all agreed finer details and send to the client.

Client uses the document “Taylor made” to her requirements within four days of having first telephoned.

Professional time spent - 3 hours 10 minutes.

Cost to client R 3,600

Saving over solicitors R 2,500, plus travel to their office

Based on commercial specialist rate of R 2,200 per hour and the high-street solicitor taking written instructions across a desk. Total time 4 hours.
